Gayle's Gazette, What I'm Reading

The IT Girl

I finished this book a few days ago and once again, for reason unknown to me, I could not connect with the story nor the characters. Here’s the thing. Ruth Ware is a very talented author. Her writing is good. Her plot line moves along. Her characters aren’t particularly unlikeable. But for me, I have a hard time connecting to her books.

The story takes place in Oxford and is about a girl who is strangled one night, and her former roommate is now questioning if she’s sent the wrong person to prison. Ware writes the characters in such a way that you really do suspect each and every one of them. It was not clear who really was the murderer until the end. I like that she made each a viable suspect.

If you like edge-of-your-seat, page-turning stories, you will enjoy this book. Personally, I had a hard time relating to the characters, but that doesn’t mean you won’t.

  1. Any guesses Gayle? Lack of depth in characters? Just personalities you aren’t drawn to, like in real life? Lack of heart?

    1. That’s the thing…I can’t figure it out. Maybe characters I can’t relate to?
